Getting started

This page walks you through your first encounter with a FedMS instance.

Signing in

A FedMS instance is a website. You sign in at the URL your organization gave you, e.g.:

Sign in with either your email or your username and the password you were given.

If you have forgotten your password, follow the Forgot your password? link to receive a reset link by email. If you have not received a welcome email, contact your Manager or the helpdesk — see Help and support.

The first thing you see

After signing in, FedMS takes you to your dashboard. The exact content of the dashboard depends on your role(s), but the building blocks are always the same:

  • My events and sessions — the events and sessions you are a member of.
  • My tasks — the tasks assigned to you, grouped by milestone.
  • What's new — recent activity in the orgs you belong to.
  • Quick actions — shortcuts to common operations (create event, add member, etc.) that you have permission to perform.

If your dashboard looks unexpectedly empty, you probably have no memberships yet. Talk to your Manager.

Your profile

Click your name (top right) → My profile to set:

  • Your display name and any name parts the instance is configured to capture (title, first name, surname, suffix).
  • Your email — this is how the system reaches you.
  • Your phone — used for some integrations (e.g. SMS reminders, international event logistics).
  • Your photo / avatar — useful so other members can recognize you.
  • Your address — used for event logistics when relevant.
  • Your preferred language — switches the interface language. The framework ships English and German; your instance may have more.
  • Your timezone — important for event dates! See fedms/components/federation#28.

Save your profile when you are done.

The general layout of the interface is described on the General usage page. The two key elements are:

  • The upper toolbar — shortcuts, helpdesk, dashboards.
  • The left main menu — collapsible navigation into the application areas you have access to.

What to do next

Where to go from here depends on your role. Pick the page that matches:

Not sure which role you have? Go to My profile → Memberships to see the list of orgs, events, and sessions you belong to and your role in each. Or read Roles overview for an explanation of what each role is.
