Attendee / Delegate

An Attendee / Delegate is the primary audience of an event. If you're attending a workshop, a training course, a conference, or any similar event organized via FedMS — this is you.

What you can see

As a Delegate, you see:

  • The events and sessions you are attending.
  • The content prepared for you — agendas, joining instructions, pre-reads, slides, recordings, follow-up materials.
  • Your tasks — what you need to do before, during, and after the event.

You do not see:

  • The full attendee list (typically — depending on the event's configuration).
  • Internal operational content (briefings to speakers, etc.).
  • Tasks for other roles.

Your dashboard

When you sign in, your dashboard shows:

  • My upcoming events — events you are registered for.
  • My active events — events that are running right now.
  • My past events — events you've already attended (with content you can revisit, e.g. recordings, certificates).
  • My tasks — grouped by milestone:
  • Before the workshop — pre-reads, registrations.
  • During the workshop — engagement, attendance.
  • After the workshop — feedback, follow-ups.

Working through a task list

A typical pre-workshop task list might include:

  1. "Read joining instructions" — click through, you'll land on a book page. Once you've viewed it, the task is marked complete automatically.
  2. "Watch the pre-recorded introduction" — opens the media item.
  3. "Submit your learning objectives" — opens a webform. Submit it.
  4. "Confirm dietary requirements" — same.

Each task disappears from your list once complete. The order of completion is up to you, but anything with a near Due date should be prioritized.

What "completion" means

The way a task gets marked complete depends on what it points at:

  • A book page or article → viewing it.
  • A video or recording → (planned) tracking playback.
  • A download → downloading the file.
  • A webform → submitting it (a draft is automatically created when the task is spawned, to avoid ambiguity).
  • An attachment → depends on the attachment type.

Details on task completion variants are tracked at fedms/components/tasks#5.

During the event

During an event, the dashboard often highlights "now" content — the current session, links to live streams or video calls, the running agenda.

If your event uses a virtual platform integration (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet), the Launch button on the event page takes you directly into the meeting. See fedms/components/federation#32.

After the event

After the event ends, FedMS keeps everything available to you:

  • The slides and materials.
  • The recordings.
  • The feedback you submitted.
  • Any certificates issued.

This is intentional — most events deliver value over the weeks and months that follow, not only on the day. You can come back to the event page at any time.

Federation note

If your organization runs its own FedMS instance, you may see the same event on your organization's instance too — with the same content, the same tasks, your same progress. This is federation at work.

I can't see / do X

The most common reason is that the relevant task hasn't been spawned yet. Tasks are usually scheduled relative to the event window — a "Submit feedback" task that fires "1 day after session end" won't appear until then.

A second common reason: you may have been added to the event recently, in which case the system is still catching up. Wait a few minutes; if nothing changes, contact the event's Manager.
